Brink of Destruction

In the piece, Brink of Destruction, I was able to utilize the idea of a self-destructive world that we live in. The utensils that hover over the head come from the mouth or can be viewed as being ingested. Within the piece was able to experiment with a wide variety of material from the usual to the unusual; the former being wires and magazine collage and the latter being strings, rubber band, and nails. The nails and rubber bands help form a sense of tension within the piece. While creating it, I was motivated by what was going on in the world currently: the threats of terrorism, nuclear warfare, and most importantly to our democracy. It is my own response to the negativity of the tension in our current world today. The violence is equivocal because the collection of negativity stems from fears; we create the negativity and negativity attacks us in return. We are collecting and not purging ourselves of the negativity in the world.
